yesterday, some serious strides were made. the sand blew away for a good 24 hours. i am happy.
first of all, we finally came up with a plan for printing the bags and it is going to be much easier on the wallet than we originally thought. we’re buying the bags blank, having them shipped directly to a local printer here (that k & w promotions uses A-LOT). the printer happens to be about 10 minutes from my house so once a week, i’ll go pick them up and ship them to customers. this is going to save us quite a bit of dough in the beginning when we are ordering small orders, (aka under minimum).
with the plans we were looking at, we were going to have to pay an under minimum fee for each color in the sign, for each sign. we were also going to have to pay set up fee for each color in the sign and a re-set fee every time we would re-order the same sign. lots of lame fees that can really hurt in the beginning when you are a) giving away quite a bit of inventory in promotions and 2) not bringing in much income (if any) in the beginning.
now, we’re ordering the bags blank so we can order any number we want without having to deal with ‘under minimum’ fees. the local printers that we work with here charge a flat rate for each color in the sign and these rates are much lower than the fees of the distributors.
i was also having issues with putting tags on the bags. the durtbagz logo needs to be actually be somewhere on the product. so it looks like we’re going to embroider the logo on the side of each bag so it doesn’t take away from the sign, but is definitely visible. sweet.
now, you might ask, ‘why did it take you so long to figure this out?’ because we are idiots and were stuck looking down one path. and this situation is more ideal than we thought. sure, i’ll have to probably go pick them up from the printers once a week or so, but it’s literally 10 minutes from my house and it will save us hundreds of dollars per order. i love my car, i can take an hour or two a week to pick them up, add some shwag, and ship them.
second reason why we’re having the best week ever: most of the initial signs are done. i got them last night. all but four are ready to roll so we can pull the trigger on printing the messenger bags! i thought this day would never come.
now we just have to figure out which signs we’ll print up to give away, how many of each sign, and how many of each color bags. this is a task i will enjoy.
