today my mood is a little lost topped with a little scared. although, i’m in a really good mood and excited (as usual) to be one day closer to launch (btw, aug 1 has come and gone, if you hadn’t noticed. i’m settling for sometime in august to kick this off). i just feel like this hill i’m climbing keeps getting taller.
here is why i don’t know what i’m doing:
1. task for today: find blogs that have to do with my industry and get chummy with them so hopefully they will link back to mine. question: what exactly is my industry? bags? retail? fashion? dorks? do you know how many blogs are in these industries? a couple. thousand. (side-note: scumbag clothing posts my blog on their site daily (at first, angered me for posting it with no reference to me, then i realized that they will post photos of my products when they are ready. i’m okay with it for now.), and my friends kelli and adam, and my blog friend aimee all mention me on their sites so i’m around. i’m kind of a big deal.)
2. task for today: research key words for the text in my website, which i should also be using in my blog (bags, bags, bags, bags, donuts, bags, bags). i’ve already written the text for the site and i really like it. it gives all the info you need and sounds kind of like an idiot from the ozarks wrote it. perfect. (that was not smack talk; that idiot i described is me). i’ll be interested to see what these key words are (am i dumb for thinking they are as obvious as bags and competition and fashion?) sub question: why didn’t i think to do this before i wrote the text? answer: i’m a nerd who likes to cross things off a list and that was on the list.
3. task for today: make sure that i actually have a page designated to ‘help’, considering that i have written the text for it. i have this weird feeling that we have omitted the ‘help’ page along the way for no reason other than pilot error.
4. task for today: setting durtbagz apart from the rest. this is big. there are other companies that have competitions for designs and it seems like more pop up daily. multiple t-shirt sites and i ran across a company for buttons the other day (pins you can stick on your jean jacket). what makes durtbagz different than those other companies? why would they want to come to my site over these? i think there are multiple answers for this, and i want to nail down how to capitalize on those top reasons.
do you see why this is a good title for today? here’s what i want to know from you: why will you carry a durtbag and why compete in the competition? if you’re not familiar with the business model, here is the condensed version:
all of the bags come with a design on them. each design is a fake street sign, 7.5″x7.5″ square, yellow background with black symbols and/or text. there is an ongoing competition (open to anyone) with themes to create new signs. the winners of the competitions (voted on by anyone, as well) are the signs that go on the bags for the next month.
i need some objectivity. if it’s just because we’re friends, don’t answer. haha.
