a couple of instances this week brought me to this question.
first of all, how do shoes end up on the side of the road? secondly, why is there only just one? where the hell did the other shoe go?
twice in one day this week, i saw one shoe in the road. one was on the side of the road. a mile later, another one was in the middle of the turn lane. and they weren’t from the same pair.
is there a problem with shoes flying off while people are driving that i’m not aware of? do people just walk out of them and decide they are too busy to stop and pick them up? “we don’t have time!! just leave it. we’ll find more!!” of course you will. because somewhere down the road, i’m willing to bet there is another lone shoe waiting for you to snatch it.
the only time i’ve ever seen a shoe go flying into the street was when i was in junior high. this kid that was on our bus was a total bully and turd-face. he lived on the street behind us and he was constantly bugging everyone and getting into trouble. one afternoon on the bus ride home, someone had finally had enough of said douchebag. they pinned him, grabbed his brand new tennis shoe and chucked it out the window as we were cruising down fremont road. and we cheered like we’d won the lottery. BUT the bus driver stopped and made him run back and get it. so a lone shoe was only half of a pair for about 5 minutes.
shoes go in pairs and it’s weird and creepy when you see one random one by itself in a place that it shouldn’t be in the first place. because really, it wouldn’t look any better if there was a pair on the side of the road. but at least you wouldn’t wonder where it’s partner went.
can someone please explain this to me? how do you lose one shoe and why do they end up on the side of the road? i’ve been riding in cars for 65 years and i’ve never come home with half the amount of shoes i left with.
